Language

Obviously, if there are no racial cultures, there are no racial languages. The predominant language spoken throughout most of the world is Maugetan. Maugetan is an odd language (to an outsider), because it is almost grammar-free. Within the context of a sentence (demarcated by paragraph when written), words can be arranged in any order without altering the meaning. This is a particularly advantageous feature for Maugetan-speaking poets and bards, who find songwriting in other languages almost impossible.

Jarkodian is the only other common language. Spoken in the Domain and Barl Plains of the north-west, Jarkodian is a much more conventional language, with word order and grammar. It is a harsh tongue, and the angular script seems designed more for stone-carving than penwork.

In certain places through the world, examples can be found of an ancient language no longer spoken. Although there are several extinct dialects of Maugetan, this is clearly a different language altogether, and not Jarkodian. There are several sages throughout the land who have spent their lives trying to track down examples of this tongue and piece together its origins.
